About the author: The writer of The Farmer's Daughter is 80 year old great-grandmother (paraplegic) Lois Beebee (Ridgley) Chappell. Born in 1904 of farm parents at Beebeetown in western Iowa she attended country school before attending Simpson College (Indianola, Ia.) for two years as a music student. She taught music briefly, then earned a Bachelor's degree at Drake University, F.A., '29. English was her minot subject. Lois married her college beau, Herbert B Ridgley Jr and they raised three sons and a daughter while simultaneously she followed a commercial art career. Widowed in 1948, Lois suffered major illnesses, but survived to remarry and do some extensive travelling. In 1974 a tragic accident left this potential writer paralyized and bedfast. The Farmer's Daughter is a first attempt to write and and has been done in long-hand over a period of 2 1/2 years of the eleven years of her confinement.
